The Council of Women World Leaders was honored to host, in collaboration with the Belgian Embassy, Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium for a private luncheon Monday, June 27, 2011 as a part of the Council’s Spotlight on Leadership Series. Her Royal Highness and Laura Liswood, Secretary General of the Council of Women World Leaders, reflected on their personal experiences as women leaders and led a discussion on violence against women.

The Council of Women World Leaders is pleased to announce its upcoming event, From Princess to President: Today's Girls, Tomorrow's Leaders, The Implications of Princess Culture on the Creation of the Next Generation of Women Leaders. Author Peggy Orenstein's bestselling book Cinderella Ate My Daughter explores how the profusion of princesses in American culture results in troubling rates of early sexualization, narcissism, and insecurities among young girls. From Princess to President will be a dynamic discussion about the impact of princess culture on girls and the implications that it may have on their development of leadership qualities.

To promote good governance and enhance the experience of democracy globally by increasing the number, effectiveness, and visibility of women who lead at the highest levels in their countries.
The Council of Women World Leaders is a network of current and former women presidents and prime ministers. The Council currently has 45 Members.
The Council and its Ministerial Initiative, a global Network of Women Ministers grouped into their specific portfolios create a collective voice for women at the highest levels of government.
Tarja Halonen, President of Finland (2000-present) is Chair of the Council, and Margot Wallström, United Nations Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, is Chair of our Ministerial Initiative.
The Council is a program of the Woodrow Wilson Center.
