Heather McAuliffe graduated from American University in May, 2010 with a dual degree in International Development and Print Journalism. She first joined the Council in 2008 as an intern, and has now returned as a fellow. Heather has worked for the Women’s Political Participation Program at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the Office of Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-MA). During the spring of 2009, Heather lived and studied in Havana, Cuba where she conducted research on Cuban national identity through the framework of Cuba’s many constitutions. Following her studies in Cuba, Heather joined the Center for Democracy in the Americas, an NGO that promotes U.S. re-engagement with Cuba. There she led a national Congressional call-in campaign, authored policy briefs, and contributed to a weekly newsletter with a Cuban and Latin American focus.
