Patricia Deyton

Patricia H. Deyton is the Director of the Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO), the internationally recognized research arm of the Simmons School of Management in Boston. The work of CGO focuses on the dual agenda of gender equity and improving business practices in the for-profit, nonprofit and government sectors. CGO is also a thought leader in the area of diversity in organizations. At Simmons, Ms. Deyton is also a Senior Lecturer in both the MBA and Undergraduate Programs, teaching courses in Gender and Leadership, Managing Diversity, Change and Negotiations, Organizational Change, Nonprofit Management and Introduction to Management. In addition she teaches at Gender, Leadership and Management and Nonprofit Management at the Harvard University Extension School and Principles of Management at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at Simmons. She is an advisor and lecturer in the PhD program GSLIS where she is lead faculty for the capstone course in Leadership and Change.

Prior to joining Simmons in the summer of 2004, Ms. Deyton was the Executive Director of the Council of Women World Leaders based at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where she had responsibility for the oversight of the strategy, program development and implementation, operations and funding of the Council. The Council is comprised of current and former heads of state and government and works to mobilize the experience, network, knowledge and global visibility of the women who hold or have held the highest offices in their own country. The Council moved to Washington, D.C. in 2004 and Ms. Deyton continues her role with the Council as the Senior Advisor. She has over 30 years of experience at the highest executive levels in the nonprofit sector, including 11 years as the CEO of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay.

Ms. Deyton currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Longy School of Music, the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Foundation of New England and the Council of Women World Leaders. She is an active member of The Boston Club.

Her current research interests include women and leadership in the public sector, women and boards of directors, and implementation of systemic change in organizations addressing gender and diversity.
