Alison Gemmill is an MPH candidate at UC Berkeley studying maternal and child health. During the school year, Alison works as a Graduate Student Researcher with UC Berkeley's Center for Children's Environmental Health Research. Alison graduated from UCLA in 2004 with a degree in Geography. After a short stint in the corporate world, Alison moved to New York City to work as a Research Assistant with the Guttmacher Institute, a nonprofit organization focused on sexual and reproductive health. During her time at Guttmacher, Alison contributed to work on the worldwide incidence of unsafe abortion, the unmet need for contraception in developing countries, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health in Central America.
Alison's fellowship placement is with the WHO's Department of Reproductive Health and Research in Geneva. As an intern, Alison will conduct data analysis to develop estimates of primary and secondary infertility in the developing world. The fellowship is a perfect fit for her love of statistics, women's health and of course, chocolate. After graduation Alison plans to continue working in reproductive and environmental health research, focusing on both domestic and international issues.
