Elizabeth LaBarbera is an Environmental Graduate Fellow at the Ministry of Coordination of Environmental Affairs (MICOA), in Maputo, Mozambique. She graduated from Loyola College in Maryland in 2007 cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Economics. While at Loyola College, she worked as Student Recycling Coordinator, publishing the school’s first Recycling Newsletter and introducing RecycleMania, a nationwide competition, to the campus. She organized a number of panel discussions focused on sustainability in order to educate the college community. She also campaigned to reduce mercury pollution in coal burning power plants for the United States Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRGS).
After graduation, she worked as a veterinary assistant in a small animal practice for two years, as well as volunteering for a wildlife rehabilitation organization and participating in other community activities. She attended Columbia University, where she earned a Master of Public Administration degree in Environmental Science and Policy in May, 2010. Elizabeth enjoys music, travel, and learning about different cultures. She is excited to have the opportunity to integrate her interest in social and gender issues with her background in environmental education and sustainability.
