Margaret Moffat

Maggie first became interested in public health and how it both influences and is influenced by poverty during the three years that she lived in Beijing, China and while conducting marketing programs in Southern Africa, Israel, and throughout Europe. She eventually decided to combine her experience working in developing countries with her advocacy interests and chose to pursue a career in sexual and reproductive health. After spending two years working with Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, Maggie is pursuing a dual degree in Sexuality and Health and International Affairs at Columbia University and intends to pursue a career with an intergovernmental organization, advocating for safe and healthy work environments for women at risk in Asia. While pursuing her degrees, she volunteers at the United Nations, where she trains UN personnel in HIV transmission, prevention and stigma reduction.

Through the fellowship with the Council of Women World Leaders, Maggie is working in Kathmandu with the Nepalese Ministry of Health evaluating the impact of non-health interventions on maternal health. This placement gives her the opportunity to gain insight into the operations of a Ministry of Health, which is invaluable to her in her future career.
