Levers of Global Security: Climate Change
Examining How a Changing Climate Impacts Women

A roundtable discussion convened by the Council of Women World Leaders, Women's Environment & Development Organization, and the Heinrich Boll Foundation.

This limited invitation roundtable discussion seeks to inform high-level advocacy and policy decision-makers on the linkages between climate change and global security, with a particular focus on the specific effects on women and children and the role women play in effecting change.  Confirmed speakers include Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and current Special Envoy to the UN on Climate Change and Lorena Aguilar, Global Senior Gender Advisor for the World Conservation Union.  A number of representatives of the media and other observers will also be in attendance. In preparation for the meeting of country leaders at the Secretary-General’s High-Level Event on Climate Change, this roundtable will bring together experts in the field and those individuals with the ability to influence policy discussions and outcomes to raise the gendered aspects of climate change and global security on the world agenda.  In addition to contributing to the discussion at the Secretary-General’s Event, the proceedings of the roundtable will be published for broad distribution through the media to increase public understanding of the issue.
