 The Council hosted Honorable Margot Wallström, Vice President of the European Commission, in a discussion on violence against women and girls used as a weapon of war. Vice President Wallström, joined by Honorable Ann Veneman, Director of UNICEF and other distinguished women leaders, discussed the United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325, 1820, 1888 and 1889 which condemn this type of violence and prescribe policies to combat it. Attendees provided concrete action recommendations to build on the existing international political momentum in order to implement lasting solutions to enduring violence against women and girls.
