The Council of Women World Leaders, in partnership with the Women and Public Policy Program at Harvard and the World Economic Forum, co-hosted the Closing the Global Gender Gap: The Business Case Conference for Organizations, Politics and Society at the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 15-16, 2010. This Conference launched the two-year Initiative of the same name that will identify and develop areas for further research on women’s participation in global and political systems. Over the two-year period of the Initiative, the Council will host high-level policy events to carry forward the themes set at the Conference and continue the dissemination of research.
The scope of the Initiative is to provide a platform for the Council and its partner organizations to:
Explore the relationship between gender gaps and economic, political and societal outcomes across sectors
Engage business, government, and media leaders in this discussion
Inform private and public sector leaders of essential insights and existing research regarding the impact of gender diversity on organizational processes and decision-making
Provide visibility and impact for the findings presented at the Conference and indentify gaps in the research on the business case for women
Engage all leaders, men and women, to implement and disseminate the outcomes of the Conference
Disseminate the newest research material supporting the business case for closing the gender gap
The Initiative will continue to build upon the findings presented at the Conference and will provide a platform for high-level discussions and dissemination of these findings. The Council, in collaboration with the sponsors of the Initiative, will host a number of high-level dialogues over the two-year period. Proposed topics for further exploration include: gender and financial decision-making, gender and the financial crisis, gender diversity in management and boards, gender and development, gender and public policy, and the debate over gender quotas.
